Getting Started

This guide covers the basics of using DocMan. You'll be up and running in about 10 minutes.

Open your browser and navigate to your DocMan instance (e.g., https://localhost). Enter your username and password on the login screen.

Default credentials (change these immediately):

  • Username: admin
  • Password: admin123

Change Your Password

After logging in, click your username in the top-right corner and select Change Password. Enter your current password and choose a new one. This is especially important if you're still using the default credentials.

Create a File Cabinet

File cabinets are the top-level containers for organizing your documents. To create one:

  1. In the left sidebar, click New Cabinet.
  2. Enter a name for the cabinet (e.g., "HR Documents," "Invoices," "Contracts").
  3. Click Create.

The cabinet appears in the sidebar and is ready to hold folders and documents.

Create Folders

Folders live inside cabinets and help you organize documents further.

  1. Click on a cabinet in the sidebar to select it.
  2. Click New Folder in the toolbar.
  3. Enter a folder name and click Create.

You can nest folders inside other folders for deeper organization.

Upload Documents

To upload files into a folder:

  1. Select the target folder in the sidebar.
  2. Click the Upload button in the toolbar, or simply drag and drop files from your desktop into the document area.
  3. Files are uploaded, stored, and (if OCR is enabled) queued for text extraction.

Search

DocMan provides full-text search across all your documents.

  1. Click the search bar in the toolbar (or press Ctrl+K).
  2. Type your search term and press Enter.
  3. Results show matching documents with highlighted snippets and page numbers.

Search finds matches inside document content (via OCR), file names, and tags.

View Document Properties

To see metadata, tags, and notes for a document:

  1. Right-click the document in the file list.
  2. Select Properties from the context menu.
  3. The properties panel shows file details, tags, notes, and version history.

Set Permissions

Control who can access your cabinets and folders:

  1. Right-click a cabinet or folder in the sidebar.
  2. Select Permissions.
  3. Add users or groups and check the appropriate access levels: Read, Write, Download, Rename, Delete, and Admin.
  4. Click Save.

Permissions are inherited by child folders unless explicitly overridden.

Next: Configuration — admin settings, Active Directory, watch folders, and more.
