In short

  • The font draws 1 as a black square and 0 as a white square, with no gaps. A barcode is then just lines of 0 and 1 in a text field.
  • A script in the PDF (two open-source barcode libraries and a few lines of glue) turns a text into those lines.
  • Everything is free: the fonts under the SIL Open Font License, the scripts under the MIT License. License and credits.
